A funeral is used to mark the end of a person's life here on earth. Family and friends come together to express grief, give thanks for the life lived and commend the person into God's keeping. These can be a small, quiet ceremony or a large occasion in a packed church. Everyone is entitled to either a burial service (funeral) or to have their ashes buried in their local parish churchyard by their local parish priest regardless of whether they attended church or not.
Christ Church is here to minister to people at the particularly sad time of bereavement.
When someone dies a local Funeral Director should be contacted (we are happy to suggest names of these if you wish to email us). They will deal with all the practical arrangements and ensure that the funeral is carried out according to the wishes of the deceased and their family and friends.
Many funerals in the UK involve a cremation. The funeral service may be held either at the crematorium immediately prior to cremation or in Church before going on to the Crematorium for the committal.
Ashes may be interred in a special place, and there is a section of Christ Church's churchyard set aside for this purpose.
At such a time we are here to offer what support we can.
