CHRIST CHURCH SHELTON AND OXON

"Balancing the books"

The Treasurer is forecasting a deficit on the General Fund of c £3,000 for the year 2011/2012.

Already a number of successful fund raising activities take place every year - thanks to the efforts of a small band of willing activists.

The Church recognises their efforts and really does appreciate all that they do.

That said, more needs to be done! And the Church is only too well aware of the time and economic demands on household budgets.

The Church is formulating a "Balancing the Books" strategy (otherwise known as Fund Raising) and with this in mind has appointed a Fund Raising Co-ordinator. The role is being developed as is a Calender of Events - you'll read all about it by regularly visiting this and related pages.

"Press" Release

At the June meeting of the PCC's Standing Committee, further discussion took place with regards to how to "balance the books" given Dave Shepherd's forecasted deficit of £3,000 on the General Fund.

The Committee recognised the hard work undertaken by many in raising funds for the Church, but also noted that such events were ad hoc and 'one offs' with no structured Calendar of Events that could be publicised with the aim of increasing the various events' success.

With that in mind, the Standing Committee discussed the appointment of a Fund Raising Co-ordinator and are pleased to announce that Nick Paterson has been made the first Fund Raising Co-ordinator.

Nick has previously been Fund Raising Chair for his local Round Table and worked for Marie Curie Cancer Care in a fund raising capacity.

Events will be publicised on the web, in Pew News and Oxon Link.

Commenting on this new appointment, Rev David said that he hoped that the opportunity was there to encourage members of the community to generate new ideas for fund raising and by using their God-given talents and acquired skills, be part of and ensure the success of events that result. In this way fund raising could be shared by all.

Forthcoming events include the annual Ride & Stride, Harvest Supper, Carols and mince pies, Rummage Sales, a social event or two - and it is intended, a Flower Festival in 2012 - the Queen's Diamond Jubilee.

Nick will be contacting all who are known to be organising events to get details of these but would appreciate information being sent to him - to send him an email just click on Nick Paterson. Many thanks.
